About the Work
In Creation: A Celebration Sue Symons has turned to the text of the Genesis account of creation for inspiration. The 42 breathtaking panels of embroidery, painting and mixed-media based on Genesis 1-2 are a luminescent piece of storytelling, which took 2 years to complete. Throughout, the art is rich in detail vitality and even humour – helping viewers to reconnect with the natural world through a blend of historic and contemporary artistry.
Sue Symons began planning Creation: A Celebration in 2007, following completion of her acclaimed Bath Diptychs. The work was completed in the summer of 2009, and was displayed at Bath Abbey. Following the donation of a generous benefactor, the panels were framed and held in the care of the Bible Society. Thanks to this benefactor and the ongoing work of Bible Society’s arts team, Sue’s work is being displayed around the country as a celebration of the crossover between art, the Bible and creation. The Bible Society - opens in a new window welcomes enquiries about displaying Creation: A Celebration around the country.
