horizonfest: community arts festival celebrating creativity and spirituality
The horizonfest community arts festival celebrated creativity and spirituality over three weeks this summer, from 1 to 21 July 2013. The festival showcased the work of local and national artists through displays, demonstrations, workshops and evening performances. It was based at Horizon Methodist Church, Hunter's Bar, Sheffield. This site will remain online until a decision is made about the future of the festival. Check here to keep up-to-date. Main Art Installation
Creation: A Celebration the art installation by acclaimed artist Sue Symons will be open for visitors throughout horizonfest. This stunning mixed-media work draws on Christian, Jewish and Islamic influences to depict the story of creation using embroidery, calligraphy and illustration.

Concerts, Performances and Events
Experience the rhythm and sounds of Sheffield through our evening concerts and performances which include poets Ian McMillan and David Harmer, drummers, singer-songwriter Paul Bell, a demonstration of Indian dance, jazz bands, folk bands, choral groups and Vulcan Varieties music hall. For the green-fingered we have a Gardener’s Question Time and plant sale, a presentation on orchids and a demonstration of contemporary floral art.

Craft Demonstrations and Workshops
Each day, 2 – 3 local artisans will be working on site, including the Arwkright Spinsters, botanical artists, jewellers, embroiderers and calligraphers.

Book into one of many taster workshops to experience a range of arts and crafts including mosaics, textiles, scrapbooking and watercolours; or explore spirituality through chant, creative writing and weaving, or take time for quiet contemplation in our Arts Chapel.
Artwork on Display
Each week, the work of different local artists will be displayed in our lounge where light refreshments are also available.
Schools Events
There will be two schools days with professional schools worker and Storyteller Andy Messer. Children will be drawn into a world of intrigue, discovery and fun. The sessions include a range of learning and creative activities. They are available only to schools that have pre-booked.
The festival is part of the Horizon @ Hunter’s Bar initiative to create a permanent centre for exploration of and participation in creativity and spirituality.
